Flying Pets from Israel to the USA
As of August 2024, Israel is defined as a high-risk country for rabies, and therefore the rules for exporting dogs from Israel to the USA have changed beyond recognition
*For cats, the rules remain the same: microchip, rabies vaccination, online health certificate.
You can only fly to five countries: New York JFK, Miami INTL, Los Angeles LAX, Washington and Atlanta
From there you can continue by car or on a connecting flight
You must take into account the time the dog will be in the quarantine facility from the moment of landing (between 7 and 24 hours)
It is very important to know how to choose the right flight, to know when it is best to land, in order to reduce the quarantine time
*The cost of quarantine is between 1400 and 1800 dollars, paid directly to the quarantine facility
Time to prepare a dog for a flight to the USA:
It is advisable to start organizing at least three months before the flight
* Puppies, only from the age of 6 months can fly
Step 1: International chip with 15 digits
The chip must be inserted before the rabies vaccination or on the day of the rabies vaccination
*A chip that is inserted after the rabies vaccination will cancel the vaccination given before and must be vaccinated with an additional vaccine
Step 2: Rabies vaccination
At least 2 rabies vaccinations are required before The flight and older dogs need 3 rabies vaccinations
*Puppies: Puppies get 2 rabies vaccinations one month apart
Step 3: Blood test for rabies antibodies
The test is done a month or more after the rabies vaccination (as long as the rabies vaccination is valid)
You must wait at least 28 days from the date of the blood test until the flight
A dog that arrives in the US before 28 days have passed from the antibody test will be quarantined
Step 4: Book a place at the CDC quarantine facility
The reservation must be made at least a month before the flight date
To New York, a reservation must be made at least 45 days before the flight date
Step 5: Prepare all the documents required to complete the reservation and receive an entry permit
